West Texas Is Building Its Own Grid, One Hyperscale Campus at a Time
Microsoft absorbing OpenAI's abandoned Abilene footprint and adding 900 MW of on-site gas generation is the clearest signal yet that hyperscalers aren't waiting on ERCOT: they're building their own grids. With Meta at El Paso and Google elsewhere in the state moving simultaneously, developers who secured West Texas gas supply and water agreements yesterday are holding the only seats left at the table.
